Get More Exercise
Be Active…
- You don’t have to go to a gym to be active! Get moving at home, at school, at work, inside or outside and include your family and friends
- Play. Do something you like that gets you moving every day
- Plan organized events you enjoy and have team mates who encourage you to attend and participate – consider group sports or classes
- Take time for you by being active during breaks in work or tasks
- Take the stairs, park further from the door when shopping and add little ways to get more movement into your regular routine
- Check out Canada’s Physical Activity Guide at http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/pau-uap/paguide/index.html
Make sure that you take part in the three types of physical activity...
- Flexibility activities to keep joints and muscles flexible like bending, stretching, and reaching
- Strength activities that build your muscles and bones like weight and resistance training
- Endurance activities that make you breathe deeper, elevate your heart rate and warm you up like fast-paced walking
Canada’s food guide recommends eating 5 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruit each day. Fruits and vegetables are very high in vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Eat a wide variety colours to get the most benefits!
